Janmashtami is also called Sri Krishna Jayanti. Janmashtami word is made up of two words janma and ashtami. ‘Janma’ means ‘birth’ and ‘ashtami’ means ‘eight’; thus Krishna Janmashtami is the celebration of Krishna’s birth on the eight of dark forth night in the month of Bhadrapada (August- September) to remember the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna.
It is very important festival of Hindus, on this day people take bath, decorate Lord Krishna idols with new clothes and jewelry and seek blessing for the well-being of their families. People worship Lord Krishna by singing songs, Shlokas and aarati for a happy and prosperous life. Krishna is considered to be a warrior, hero. teacher and philosopher by Hindus.
In our Angels Kids School also we had celebrated Krishna Janmashtami on 19th of Bhadra, Tuesday by decorating the Lord Krishna with flowers and different things. Small children are more comfortable with the real objects, pictures and models and it helps the children to grasp easily what the concept is. We had decorated the chart with the things which are very closed to the Lord Krishna like; flute, peacock feathers, crown, dahi handi etc as you can see the pictures below.
All the children, boys came with the Krishna’s dress and girls came with the Radha’s dress, and they all looked so beautiful. They worshiped the god Krishna and provided ‘Prasad’. All the children were curious, excited and enjoyed a lot It’s very difficult to make them clear on how and why Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated. But learning by doing concept is fruitful for the small children to understand easily. To make any festival alive celebration is the form to remind each and every events.
